Media release
Police on the Big Island of Hawaii are seeking public assistance to identify owners of red and yellow two-person kayaks that drifted off the coast of Mahokona Beach Park and Rapakahi State Park last month.
The search for the Kohala coast, first reported to the Hawaii Fire Department by bystanders fishing in the area on Friday, December 25, 2020, was conducted by HFD and showed no signs of distress. There have been no reports of missing persons in the area since the kayak was discovered.
A red and yellow two-seater kayak called the Tropic II kayak was towed to the shore. As with all property cases found where an item has no identifier, HPD retains the property for 45 days to check for any reports of loss or theft. Hawaii police are grateful to the general public for their help in returning this large item to its legitimate owner.
If you have information to help identify the owner of this kayak, please contact Officer Justin Cabanting ((808) 889-6540) or send an email to Justin.Cabanting @ hawaiicounty.gov ..
