1 dead after crash involving semi in Linn County – Portland, Oregon

KOIN, Oregon — According to Oregon police, one person died after a head-on collision with a semi-track in Linn County on Sunday night.

According to OSP, Sweet Home’s 54-year-old Darin Kleiven was driving west on Highway 34 near MilePost 15, crossing the oncoming lane and hitting a semi driven by 26-year-old JD Wawkins.

Another driver, 29-year-old Linea Johnson, was hit by debris from the crash, OSP said.

Hawkins and Johnson were unharmed, but Kleiben did not survive the crash. According to police, he was sentenced to death on the scene.

Highway 34 was closed for four hours during the collision investigation. Police believe that speed and weather may be the cause of the crash.
