Passengers died after a suspected drunk driver hit a parked Santa Anna police car late Friday night, officials said.
Santa Ana Police said in a news release that two Santa Ana police officers were sitting in parked police units in the areas of Washington Avenue and Lowell Street when Honda collided head-on with a patrol vehicle at 11:20 pm. ..
All were taken to a nearby hospital after an ambulance from the Orange County Fire Department responded and began treating officers and people in Honda.
According to police, passengers at Honda were later sentenced to death in the hospital.
Jesus Emmanuel Perez of Santa Ana, the man holding the steering wheel of Honda, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in a felony while he was drunk.
Police said the vehicle appeared to be heading east in Washington when it collided with a police unit parked facing Lowell.
Photos released by police show that both vehicles have major front-end damage. It looked like the Honda windshield was broken.
No information was available on the police officer’s condition on Saturday afternoon.
The crash was under investigation and details were not immediately known.
