Mesa County, Colorado — One was injured and two police officers were slightly injured in a police shooting at Grand Junction Thursday evening.

At 6 pm Thursday, a police officer at the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a wanted man’s report around Rocket Park on 1827 N. 26th St.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, which released preliminary information, a 44-year-old man was arrested from Grand Junction for misdemeanor domestic violence and a violation of a protection order before police arrived. I learned that I have a sheriff warrant about an incident on behalf of a critical incident response team in the 21st Judicial District.

According to the sheriff’s office, when the police arrived, “a battle broke out and the suspect fled to Black Mazda.” Two police officers were injured. One was treated on-site by paramedics and the other was taken to the hospital. The latter has been released.

Shortly after the quarrel, police found the suspect in the parking lot of Sportsman’s Warehouse at 2464 US Highway 6 And 50.

“While contacting the subject, a police-involved shooting occurred,” the sheriff’s office said. “The police immediately provided medical assistance until the paramedics arrived.”

The suspect was taken to the hospital because of an injury.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation was in its infancy and this preliminary information is subject to change.

Members of the critical incident response team will interview witnesses and stakeholders over the next few days.

The parking lot in front of Sportsman’s Warehouse is temporarily closed.

Anyone with information about this case will be asked to call the witness tipline at 970-244-3526.
