Honolulu, Hawaii 2021-01-13 04:15:00 –
Ten people escaped from a two-story house fire that broke out at around 3:28 pm in Waipahu today.
The Honolulu Fire Department has sent 11 units, including 36 personnel, to 94-286 Kahuawai Street. The first unit arrived at 3:35 pm, seven minutes after the first alert, and found smoke and flames coming from the front and left side of the house. The second floor was surrounded by flames, and the roof collapsed due to the flames.
Firefighters controlled the fire at 4:04 pm and extinguished it at 4:42 pm.
Firefighters treated a man suffering from smoke inhalation.
He was trying to fight the fire with a hose in the garden. He was taken to Queen’s Medical Center West.
The American Red Cross is supporting displaced persons, HFD said in a news release.
The fire is under investigation. There were no estimates of cause or damage.
HFD recommends the use of smoke detectors to warn residents of fires in the early stages. Smoke detectors should be installed in each bedroom, corridor, and if there are multiple floors or if the house has a basement, one should be installed at each level.
