The third owner, Paul Bixler, says it’s time to retire 51 years after he started working for WS Bixler Electric for his father and two uncles in 1970.
His grandfather started his business as a contractor in 1914, wiring buildings and schools in most of the city’s cities, Paul Bixler told FOX8 in an interview.
He says that when white goods hit the market, his grandfather began selling refrigerators, washing machines, and more at the original location of the store at 153 Main Street, one block away from his current location.
As the popularity of white goods increased, the store expanded.
However, he says he closed the electric company and continued to sell appliances when the house collapsed about 10 years ago.
“I’m 67 years old and I thought it was time to retire,” he said. “The pandemic made the decision a little easier because it made it harder to get the product. It was hard last year, but this year it’s getting worse because many factories haven’t returned to production yet. think.”
The distributor says there is a shortage of employees, so it may take another year and a half to get the product back into the pipeline, he says.
“The fourth generation didn’t exist and I didn’t want to leave a name in the business,” he said. “The next person may do a better job than I do, but I don’t want to hear about it in four or five years.” We bought appliances at Bicksler’s, but they really made a mistake with me. “We have a pretty good reputation and I just want to leave it alone,” he said.
He has created many friendships with people that has been a staple and key fixture in downtown Wadsworth for over a century, and customers are sad to see it come, but they understand. Is called.
