St. Paul, like any other city, is a series of districts.
But unlike other cities, neighbors and leaders take real pride in where they live and are willing to support businesses within their boundaries.
Do you want proof? Write that the restaurant is in the adjacent neighborhood. To make matters worse, use the wrong name for the area.
As we have, you will hear from loud and proud readers.
We talked about the streets (university, payne, grand) and found it fun to provide mini dining guides to different areas of St. Paul.
This week we’ll start with Macalester-Groveland. Macalester-Groveland was an unruly fruit with the opening of some really exciting eateries last year.
We chose our current favorite — the restaurant we recommend when people ask where to eat nearby.

Bebop and chicken
This locally-owned over-the-counter order spot features Korean fried chicken, which is fried twice and super-crisp coated. Korean fried chicken is emphasized in several ways. The first is a crispy, tender Korean-style fried chicken sandwich with a perfect match of cabbage and cucumber coleslaw. Bibimbap with crispy boneless chicken thighs on rice, kimchi, vegetables and poached eggs is also excellent. Also, if you’re in a group, order 6 or 12 Korean-style fried chicken drumsticks for easy sharing.

I said it before, but I’ll say it again. If you’ve never been to Chip’s for the next level of comfort food, what are you waiting for? Chef Tara Coleman (who also owns the same great Hot Hands Pie & Biscuit next door)’s second venture offers a cozy menu that offers equally cozy menus, from bacon bacon (fancy grilled cheese) to fish and chips. It’s a good spot. Ramen is one of the best burgers in town. Vegans and vegetarians are also cherished with multiple menu items such as fun cashew nut and herb patties, fried Jardiniera, vegan cheeseburgers, and now spring orecchiette pasta.
And it’s a good idea to order it, whether you’re a dessert person or not. Creative and tasty options when we were there included an unforgettable Sunday with toasted ice cream, jammy toppings and butter toasted bread crumbs, and an unmistakable fun fetti cake. I did.

Every neighborhood needs a consistently great breakfast spot, provided by Colossal Cafe.
To be honest, I will reorder everything I last tried on the menu. Some favorites include breakfast burritos. This adds pickles of onions, tender, juicy pork shoulders, and keso fresco to make the game a staple this morning. Incredibly delicious biscuits and gravy sauce (there’s also a wild vegetarian mushroom version!); Delicious breakfast sandwiches that weaken your knees and giant yeast pancakes.
If you hadn’t thought about breakfast before, we must be thinking now.

This quaint casual Italian restaurant and market nods to the Italian square, which is full of indoor and outdoor spots. A space for homemade Italian Focaccia bread street sandwiches, meat and cheese platters, soups, salads and desserts. The list of Italian-themed cocktails, wines and beers is also fascinating.
We have enjoyed everything we have tried here. If you’re looking for recommendations, we’d like newcomers here to try their signature Italian Street Sandwich. Carnet sandwiches are packed with several types of meat and cheese from delicatessen and are a great way to go. Therefore, it is a great sample of what is provided. Not only prosciutto and arugula sandwiches, but also homemade pastrami sandwiches are a great choice. You can’t order from here without Tiramisu.
It’s also worth mentioning that DueFocacceria was pivoted several times during the pandemic, including adding a take-and-makeup category for those who want to cook at home for their families. Something like lasagna bolognese or cannelloni is among the options.
You should also be aware that in addition to ordering in the market, there is a walk-up window if you want to stick outdoors.

Opened before the pandemic, this relatively new man regularly goes out for great cocktails, wine, beer, nosh and is authentic, including tapas dishes inspired by Italian, Spanish and Portuguese cuisine. This is the place where you want to have a nice meal. On a recent visit, some of the dishes that were at the top of our list remain, but there were some newcomers on the menu. In any case, the menu changes depending on the season, so the standing menu seems to be spring.
I recommend Fideua pasta with broken rice noodles in a flavorful soup with a combination of seafood and meat from clams, shrimp and ham hooks. I wasn’t disappointed with this recent trip.
Longtime favorites like burgers are doubly crushed, juicy and crispy in the middle, and crispy on the edges, but I think they’re just as tasty.
For now, only takeaway and patio seats. As Estelle’s first official patio season begins, you’ll be delighted to know that there are both a sidewalk table and a wooden deck patio behind you to dine outdoors.
From there, the restaurant will reopen for dining indoors on May 25, according to the restaurant’s website.

The first certified organic bakery in the United States turned to a healthy diet that didn’t have to spoil the flavor. The 36-year-old restaurant, which recently started in Minneapolis and is now in St. Paul, continues to dine with breakfast items, soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees and, most importantly, modern spins. , Reliable baked goods and decadent desserts. If you’re looking for something to order from here on your first attempt, we also have some reliance that might be yours. Includes egg whites, organic greens and seed sourdough toasted zone omelets. After breakfast, I especially like the Wild Acres Turkey Burger when I want something casual, and the mashed potatoes and green miso salmon when it feels like a knife and fork entree.

Boil gorgeous seafood with a killer drink in a funky and casual atmosphere. Sounds good? We think so too. A classic Boyle version of Chef Samewadi has appeared in St. Paul, so I’m thinking of as many excuses as possible to get there and get dirty. (If you didn’t notice it, it’s a big mistake to wear white while eating here.)
We love to boil a crab leg mass in a restaurant’s specialty sauce and swallow the meat from the shell while rinsing it with one of the creative cocktails in place. But if you don’t want to get confused, can you suggest one of the best chicken sandwiches in town? Seriously, it’s great.

Hot hands pie & biscuits
Comfort foods such as pot pies, biscuits, pastries and dessert pies belong to their own league, thanks to the attention to detail and the chewy touch to win the combination. Chicken pot pies — 6-inch individual serving-sized gems with butter and flaky crust, not to mention juicy salted chicken, cut vegetables and flavorful gravy sauce — are great performances and one of the best.
A big attraction in this casual place is the airy flaky biscuits. It can be ordered individually or as a breakfast or chicken sandwich.
Don’t miss the toasted leek wafer crust vanilla pie and the sweet pie topped with the staff’s favorite mascarpone cream pie. Get high quality coffee from your local roaster to meet your order.
I also like the fact that during the pandemic, HotHands launched a prepaid program. In other words, you can buy a slice of pie for $ 5 for strangers when ordering directly or online.

Around the corner of St. Clair and Snelling Streets, the block has seen a huge boom in great restaurants over the past year, including Nashville Corp.
This restaurant keeps things simple by offering some variations on one of the well-made items, Nashville Hot Chicken. You can get it in sandwiches or soft shapes. If you like super crispy and spicy chicken, get it. (If you don’t like spices, there are also non-spicy versions.) Tip: Ask for additional sauce for french fries. You will not regret it.

There’s a reason this St. Paul spot near Macalester College has been around for 14 years. The casual restaurant is consistent with serving delicious Mediterranean cuisine, from omelets to burgers and from gyros to curries. And don’t forget one of our favorite menu items, kebab. This spot is also perfect for those looking for delicious options other than meat. The starter and side vegetarian mix plate, Shish Maza Mix, which includes tabbouleh, lentil soup, falafel pita, and hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, tabbouleh, olives, and pita bread, is also a top pick here, whether vegetarian or not.

Tono pizzeria + cheesesteak
Another beginner in the region, this pizza-cheesesteak joint quickly became one of our favorite takeaway destinations.
Located in the former St. Clair Broiler Space (opposite Hot Hands Pies & Biscuits and Chips Clubhouse), this modern and efficient counter service space produces seriously delicious wood-fired pies and cheesesteak. Sandwiches are one of the best in Twin Cities, so it’s no wonder you already have cult fans. We’re fans of Supreme, layered with steak, grilled onions, peppers (sweet and spicy) and sprinkled with cheese with (of course, if you don’t like bright yellow goo, there are other cheese options available).
When it comes to pizza, choose your favorite toppings, they are all great. We love spices, so pepperoni cups, hot honey and chili oil spices are currently addicting.
