One person was killed and at least 12 were injured after a shooting at a Kroger store in Collierville, Tennessee, on the eastern outskirts of Memphis, officials said.
According to Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane, the police officer received a call from an active shooter in a supermarket at 1:30 pm.
A few minutes later, police arrived and Lane said he had walked through the aisles inside the store, looking for potentially injured victims and finding someone hiding in a freezer or locked office.
Mr Lane said at a news conference that the shooting suspect had died because he believed the police were “gunshot wounds due to self-harm.”
At least 12 people were transferred to a local hospital and one went to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to Lane.
The extent of the victim’s injury is not yet clear at this time, but Lane said some of the injuries were serious.
