((((Hill) — Saturday suspect Mass shootings in BuffaloNew York, according to the room invitation, set up a chat room on Discord just before he shot and killed 10 people Review by The Washington Post..
The post got a copy of the invitation titled “Happening: This isn’t a drill” from suspect Peyton Gendron shortly before 13 people were shot dead at a tops grocery store.
A person familiar with the matter told the outlet that 15 people had joined the room and urged investigators to investigate the possibility that Gendron was encouraged by an online friend.
This finding meant that more people could see the shooting than originally thought, and authorities were aware that it was livestreamed on Twitch shortly after the shooting.
According to the post, a review of the shooter Discord server shows a number of racist messages, showing plans for mass shootings dating back six months.
Gendron has been accused of driving for hours, primarily to shoot in black neighborhoods, in support of racist conspiracy theories. Eleven of the thirteen victims were black.
Erie County Sheriff John Garcia calls the shooting a “racially motivated straight hate crime.”
Sources told the post that authorities did not know what the 15 Discord members who accepted the shooter’s invitation did after joining his server.
Discord issued a statement Wednesday, stating that it is working with law enforcement agencies to support the investigation.
Hill is seeking comment from Discord and Erie County Sherriff’s Office.
