Spartanburg, South Carolina (WSPA) – Police are investigating a shooting that injured one person in downtown Spartanburg early Friday morning.
The Spartanburg Police Station responded to a call for shooting in the area of West Broad Street 145 (City Hall) around 2 am. Police responded to the city hall and found the victim lying on the sidewalk of Broad Street.
The victim told police that he was in the back parking lot of 151 South Church Street (Spartanberg County Public Library) when he was shot.
He said he was able to put it back in his car and drive to the city hall. Victims did not want to share additional details with police, department officials said.
The 16-year-old victim was taken to the hospital. According to police, he was injured in the back by a single bullet.
The victim’s mother reported to police that she had taken her car without permission while her son was asleep. She didn’t know her son was missing until she was contacted by the police.
