Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) —Virginia Beach police arrested and charged a 17-year-old boy in connection with a shooting that injured a man near Gauer Place on Sunday night.

Police said teenagers were successfully detained on Tuesday after a search warrant was executed at 5,500 blocks on Bakaro Rate Drive.

The dispatcher received a 911 call reporting the sound of a shot at 5500 blocks at Gower Place at 7:33 pm on Sunday.

At 7:45 pm, the dispatcher also received a report from a local hospital that a man seriously injured in the shooting had moved to the emergency room on his own.

Officers responded to Gower Place and found additional evidence. Additional investigations showed that the man was shot near a basketball court in Hampshire Lane.

According to police, the detective identified a 17-year-old suspect and obtained a petition for malicious injuries, possession of a gun by a boy, and use of a gun on consignment of a felony.

On Tuesday, police carried out a search warrant at 5500 blocks of Bakaro Rate Drive, not far from the location of the shooting on Sunday. At that time, investigators were able to collect “further evidence.”

Police did not identify the teenager because he is a boy.

A teenager was taken to a Virginia Beach juvenile detention facility.
