Kearney, Nebraska (AP) — Authorities in south-central Nebraska say the car’s engine was ejected as a 17-year-old girl survived a train crash.
Kearney Hub reports that a crash occurred on Wednesday at a railroad crossing across the west of Kearney.
Buffalo County Sheriff officials say 17-year-old Sydney Connor was heading north on the county road at around 7:45 am when her car collided with the Union Pacific Railroad to the west. Sheriff Sergeant Ramie Listin says investigators believe Connor was blinded by the rising sun as he approached the intersection and couldn’t see the train.
There is no intersection at that intersection, but it is marked with a stop sign.
