Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) — A 17-year-old member of the Virginia Beach Tide Swimming Team is one step closer to qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.
17-year-old Kayla Wilson played the 200-meter freestyle semi-final in the second wave of the US Swimming Olympics Trial in Omaha, Nebraska on June 4.
Wilson is currently a junior at Norfolk Academy and a top 20 new employee of the American Swimming Federation.
She is one of the seven members of Omaha’s Tide Swim Team, competing with the best players in the country.
Currently, four people belong to the team and three are enrolled in the university, but they took the program. The swimmers who participated in the exam are 16 to 21 years old.
The semi-finals will be streamed live on NBC-WAVY at 8 pm on Tuesday.
