Merced, CA (KFSN)-A tape of the crime scene remains in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Merced, killing 18-year-old Dominique Hernandez.

His friends gathered nearby to light a candle and pay tribute.

“Anyone who knew Dom knew he was a good friend and a good brother,” says Bendenbates. “He cared for everyone and made everyone laugh, so when I heard this, it was terrible. We lost something good.”

At around 6:30 pm on Monday evening, people were surprised by the gunshots at the bustling shopping center near Olive Avenue and Loughborough Drive.

Authorities say Hernandez was driving a car with another when someone fired from another car.

“The little kid shouted out, and the kid already had a gun,” says Dennis Briseno. “That is, he was calm and had to practice a lot.”

Police arrived to find Hernandez with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital and later died.

“In such cases, it’s tragic,” says Merced Police Lieutenant Joseph Perez. “As you know, there are more young people. People want to live a long and fruitful life. I have a child of that age. Such violence should not happen in someone’s life. I don’t think it is. “

Hernandez played soccer at Atwater High School. His friends say he remembers him as a good athlete and even better.

“The man was crazy about the field,” says Anthony Zimmerman. “One of the fastest out there. He’s always keen on football and will give it 100 percent.”

Police are still working to get a description of the suspect’s vehicle and identify the shooter.

They say this is the eighth murder in the city so far this year, compared to a total of nine last year.

A GoFundMe It was started to help pay for funeral expenses.
