Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) — Two men have been charged with claiming that Virginia Beach police were involved in the purchase of firearm straw.

According to police, 21-year-old Micah Elisha Etherridge in Virginia Beach and 21-year-old Markee Jermaine Brown in Portsmouth have been charged with purchasing straws. Etheridge has been charged with two charges of soliciting firearms. Brown has been charged with two counts of purchasing firearms for resale to unqualified persons.

According to police, the purchase of straws is a deliberate purchase of guns for others. The person who receives the weapon either fails to pass a federal background check for purchase or does not want to be associated with a sale.

Both buyers and sellers can face the price of straw to buy firearms.

Police said the investigation began after evidence recovered during the arrest of the concealed weapons “revealed interactions between individuals attempting to purchase illegal guns.”

Police did not identify who was arrested in the hidden weapons case or when the case occurred.

Police also did not reveal when Brown and Eseridge were indicted.
