Kansas City, Missouri — Zona Rosa welcomed two new black women-owned businesses on Saturday.

Sydni Russell has announced Jill Marie Boutique, her store full of mom and baby clothes and accessories.

“Jill Marie is the middle name of my daughters. It definitely makes sense because the name of my deceased mother is Jill and the name of my fiancé’s grandma is also deceased,” Russell said.

Russell launched his business in October and sold products online and in pop-up stores around Kansas City.

Opening my own store was an idea Russell came up with during the COVID-19 pandemic. She hesitated, but took the plunge.

“The whole pandemic was honestly a big reason I started a business because I was thinking of starting a business. Wait,” Russell said. “I have dreams and things I want to do. Then you need to do it right now. “

Just below the Jill Marie boutique is the Fresh Factory KC.

“This is really just an opportunity to celebrate the fresh culture of Kansas City. It’s people, art, and in many ways a really novel and fun concept,” said India Wells Carter.

Event spaces and places where people can take pictures and videos in different backgrounds arrived in Wells Carter in January. About five months later, she opened her business to the public.

“Not only was I very promised that your dreams and ideas would come true, but I was nervous. My desire is to encourage my short journey as an entrepreneur to get others to do it.”

Both want their shops and ideas to grow. But inspiring future generations is the true success story.

“Women dominate the world, the magic of black girls, 100%, and can inspire little girls regardless of skin color, but for black and brown people, your dreams come true. You can. People are here to support you, “Wells-Carter said.
