ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Police are investigating a fatal car accident that killed two people in Elk Grove.
The crash occurred near Franklin High Road off Whitelock Parkway. Shortly before 5 am, a sedan collided with a tree and cut off the front of the vehicle, police said. Firefighters also responded to the crash.
The name of the person who died in the crash has not been disclosed. There are unconfirmed reports that they may have been teenagers, according to people in the field.
According to the victim’s friends, three recently graduated from high school and the fourth was their current senior.
The other two were injured in the crash. One was listed in danger and rushed to the hospital. According to the family, one of the victims was an 18-year-old woman who was in the back seat at the time of the crash. The family says it took more than an hour for the first responder to safely rescue her.
Henoch Munos, who lives across from the crash, says he woke up to something that sounded like an explosion. He says people often treat roads as speedways.
“This morning I came to see and saw the car there, so (I) just came here, and it seems worse than I thought,” Munoz said.
Karl Ortega thinks of a family of four in the car and tries to describe what’s happening right now.
“This is really scary,” he said.
Friends are planning a monument on Tuesday to remember the lost lives and gather for the survivors of the crash.
