Two employees were shot dead at a Dallas hospital Saturday morning, hospital officials reported. The male suspect was shot and wounded by responding police.
The situation became apparent around 11:00 a.m. local time at the Methodist Dallas Medical Center, according to a Methodist Health System news release.
The Methodist Health System police, along with the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas Fire and Rescue Corps, responded to a “call of a mass shooting” at a hospital.
According to Methodist Health, two hospital workers were shot dead by the suspects. The victim was not immediately identified.
A responding Methodist Health System police officer arrived on the scene, “chased at the suspect” and opened fire, wounding him, Methodist Health said.
The suspect was taken to another hospital for treatment. His name has not been released.
The details and circumstances of the shooting were unknown. There was no word on possible motives.
Methodist Health said the hospital was “safe” and “had no ongoing threats.”
“The Methodist Health System family is heartbroken by the loss of two of our beloved team members,” Methodist Health said in a statement. “Our entire organization is heartbroken by this unimaginable tragedy.”
