Seattle (AP) —Police said they had found two victims injured when cleaning up a shopping mall near Seattle after a shooting on Saturday.
The Tukwila police station wrote on Twitter at 12:15 pm that there were police officers at the site of the Westfield Southcenter Mall in Tukwila, southern Seattle, and that people should avoid the area.
“Executives are cleaning up the mall,” the department tweeted 10 minutes later. “If you are evacuating to the store, stay there until a police officer contacts you.”
A shopper, Wesley Eubanks of Olympia, told The Associated Press in a direct message on Twitter that he had heard six or seven shots with his wife in the rush of a cosmetics store at the first level of the mall. He said the couple moved behind the store with a few other customers as the employee took them to a particular area.
The sheriff’s agent cleaned up the store, but they remained inside while the police were waiting for the rest of the mall to be cleaned up, he said.
Washington State Patrol has closed the exit from Interstate 5 and 405 to the Southcenter.
