Many years of friends have sailed the Caribbean on their first cruise departing from North America since the pandemic began.
The Celebrity Millennium left St. Martin on Saturday and all adult passengers and crew were fully vaccinated.
“You don’t have to wear a mask. You can, if you wish. All crew and staff will wear a mask,” says Irene.
The 2,000 capacity of the ship is still limited to 30%. All passengers were required to present a vaccine card and a negative PCR test and complete a health questionnaire prior to boarding.
Another change is that the crew serves meals to the passengers rather than the classic buffet style on board.
However, they say that extreme precautions bring a feeling of comfort on board that has never been felt since the pandemic began.
For Julia, watching the cruise industry return to the ocean is more than just a fun time.
As a travel agency, she has a huge impact on her livelihood.
“In the whole pandemic, all I had to do was cancel the reservation. Canceling the reservation doesn’t cost me any money,” she says.
Their first destination is Barbados.
Next is Caliak and Aruba!
There is a medical facility on board with 2 doctors and 11 nurses in case someone tests positive for COVID.
Those who test positive will be placed in a quarantine cabin and contact tracking will begin.
