Two Florida junior high school students were arrested Thursday for attempting to shoot at school.
“This may have been the next Parkland massacre, but we stopped them during the planning phase,” said Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marseno.
Students aged 13 and 14 were interested in shooting at a school in Columbine, killing 13 victims, officials said.
According to Marseno, a teacher at Harns Marsh Middle School in Lehigh Acres contacted school managers and school resources officers after students said one of the suspects had a gun in his backpack.
No weapons were found in the backpack, but Marseno said the student had a map showing where the school’s camera was.
Upon further investigation, Marseno said he had placed a gun and knife in the student’s house.
According to Marseno, the boys were going to receive a mental evaluation.
