The 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid pickup truck surpassed Ford’s previous fuel economy estimates, with an “EPA estimate” of 42 mpg city rating, automakers announced Thursday. The numbers have not been finalized yet, but indicate that they are almost finalized. Ford had previously targeted a city of 40mpg.

Maverick Hybrid starts at $ 21,490 including destinations. Installed under the second row of seats, the 1.1kwh lithium-ion battery pack powers a motor that produces 191hp and 155lb-ft of torque in combination with a 2.5-liter in-line 4-cylinder engine. The motor reduces the acceleration of the line before the engine starts. The CVT smoothly shifts power to the front wheels. It’s essentially the same setup for the 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid.
The front-wheel drive escape has a total EPA rating of 44 mpg cities, 37 highways, and 41. Aeronautics will probably drag the 2022 Ford Maverick down the highway, but its official overall rating is still impressive with a total of 42 mpg cities, 33 highways and 37 mpg.
The 2021 RAV4 hybrid has a total of 41/38/40 mpg and the 2021 Honda CR-V hybrid has a total of 40/35/38 mpg EPA rating. The overall rating of the Toyota Sienna Hybrid Minivan is 36mpg, and the total AWD rate of the Toyota Highlander Hybrid 3-row crossover SUV is 35mpg.
Maverick has the option of an upgraded 2.0-liter turbo 4 with 250hp and 277lb-ft. Using front-wheel drive, it is relatively efficient as a gas engine, with an EPA-rated 23 mpg city of 30 highways, for a total of 26. The AWD variant loses 1mpg, but is still Maverick’s closest competitor 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz, Released this year as well. Similar to GM’s medium-duty truck twins, the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado diesel products, you’ll get a total of 23mpg.
The 2022 Maverick with Turbo 4 is now on sale. Ford is currently accepting orders for the Maverick Hybrid and will deliver them by January.
