What’s new in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
It’s new, but the C-class exterior styling sounds familiar. With a long nose, short boot lid, and low stance, the C-Class combines gorgeous features with sporty clues to convey a discreet attitude. It’s certainly influenced by the S class, but it’s also influenced by the CLA class, which shares a faceted taillight and a low mesh grille.
In a surprisingly rethought cockpit, the C-Class approaches the electric vehicle styling themes and memes. A 12.3-inch digital display replaces traditional gauges. The screen can consist of classic, sporty, and understated themes, displaying limited or complete instrumentation in a variety of colors. The 11.9-inch touch screen comes in portrait style from the center console wrapped in black or textured trim. The ensemble is covered with rounded vents and bordered by ambient lighting.
As Mercedes turned to the future and electric cars, the C-Class gave up on 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines. The Turbo-4 engine will be in stock and traded: the 2.0-liter unit kicks out 255hp and 295lb-ft torque, and a 48-volt mild hybrid system is ported for an additional 148lb-ft torque and 20. Horsepower that further improves fuel efficiency. Mercedes promises a time of 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 130mph. A high performance engine under the AMG banner, perhaps with more cylinders? Mercedes is a mom about it so far.
All-wheel drive is possible, but a 9-speed automatic is standard equipment. The previous C-Class air suspension has been discontinued, leaving a separate multi-link setup with adaptive dampers that works in conjunction with electric power steering to handle rides and chores. A pair of suspension and AMG line package for sports.
The new C-Class will check in with a total length of 187.0 inches (up to 2.5 inches) and a wheelbase of 112.8 inches (gain 1 inch). Headroom and legroom increase with most of the five passengers seated, but can still be the most comfortable for four adults and 17.9 cubic feet of carry-on baggage.
All models come with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitors, and adaptive LED headlights. Adaptive cruise control and driver assist features available help detect and avoid stationary vehicles up to 62 mph. Active Lane Control allows you to keep your car in the center of the lane at speeds up to 130 mph. Surround view camera systems can send that information to these features to improve responsiveness.
The new MBUX user interface manages C-class touch screens and accepts touch, voice, and handle inputs. It comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and features a power supply, keyless start, a heated front seat, and a power sunroof. On the options list, Mercedes offers wireless smartphone charging, vermester audio, heads-up display, surround view camera system, adaptive cruise control, integrated dash camera, AMG line body kit, and nappa leather upholstery.
