Is 2022 Toyota GR 86 Debuted in North America this week and provided some details and specifications. It usually takes several months to experience the actual movement, but I had the opportunity to go around the Eagles. Canyon Orbit.Unfortunately we didn’t hold the steering wheel, but at least the ride quality was the same Professional Drifter Kenshiro Gushi Steer.
Gushi talked about some aspects of GR 86, And one of the first things he mentioned was the exhaust noise. He said that the sound was higher than before. I also noticed that it sounds louder and clearer than the slightly subdued and vague exhaust noise of the current model. Fortunately, it wasn’t unpleasantly loud, but you’ll have to wait until you get a test car to see what it looks like at highway cruising speed.
Gushi then mentioned the greater torque obtained at much lower peaks. At 6,600 rpm it’s 156 pounds, compared to 3,700 rpm it’s 185 pounds-ft. From the passenger seat, it’s hard to tell how fast it feels, but it didn’t seem like there was a frustrating flat torque spot in the middle of the rev band that would kill the acceleration. And in fact, this is one of the biggest complaints we had about the old 86, which is good. And, of course, as already mentioned, the car produces more horsepower (228 Pony instead of 205), so it’s not enough to be noticeable from the passenger seat, but there’s also a little grunt on the top end.
Down the first straight, Gushi threw the GR 86 into the corner. It is clear that the light and balanced feel of the old car is still alive in the new car. It responds quickly and smoothly to steering operations and changes in direction. Gushi could easily oversteer and felt very progressive and predictable. This is going to be a very gentle car that won’t bite even if it’s rough.
There was a slightly milder body roll, but it was less than the ND Miata and almost the same as the current car. Hopefully this also means it’s not overly harsh on the road.
The ride was completed in about 3 minutes. We are looking forward to more. It looks like an excellent formula for the old 86. BRZ Has just changed for the better and can’t wait to grab the steering wheel for himself in the near future.
