The 2022 Subaru BRZ has already been announced. The only rear-wheel drive Subie basically provides us with a preview of what the upcoming Toyota GR 86 will look like, Motor.es You are welcome.
Obviously, it’s based on the BRZ’s publicly available official image-with minor changes, of course. Apart from the badge, the rendering comes with a different set of wheels and a lower grill. The latter is reminiscent of another Toyota sports car, the GR Supra. But we’re a little skeptical about it, as recent spy shots have shown us a wider opening closer to that of the BRZ.
Nonetheless, this is an interesting take and it’s nice to see Toyota use it in production instead of what you see in spy photos. By the way, I created a render based on these spy shots in case I needed help with visualization.
At this time, no GR86 design has been decided. But what we all know is to power Toyota sports cars. Following what the BRZ endures, the next-generation 86 will also use a horizontally-opposed naturally aspirated 2.4-liter 4-pot engine that produces 228 horsepower (170 kilowatts) and 184 pound-foot (249 newton meters) of torque. These numbers represent a healthy power bump from the outgoing model.
As you may have noticed, the GR 86 moniker announced for the GR Supra and GR Yaris is used to reflect Toyota’s involvement in the development of Gazo Racing.
The next generation Toyota GR86 will arrive in the 2022 model. A previous insider report confirmed its global debut in July 2021.
