What are the new features of the 2022 Toyota Tandra?

The first new Tundra since 2007 reintroduces a full-sized truck with available hybrid powertrains, multi-link rear suspension, 12,000 pounds of traction, and the latest standard safety and convenience features. I will make a new one. Toyota will sell the SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro models with some TRD packages.

Offering a crew cab and a four-door extended cab body, the new tundra OMEGA grille presents its bold new presence. Narrow headlights and DRLs get caught in a large block of fenders that stretch the track outwards. The inflated fenders and square wheel cutouts are connected by a recessed character line in the lower half of the door, and three available bed sizes complete the profile. The power tailgate can be accessed through the taillight recess or through the fobs and gates. Toyota has not yet made detailed specifications or changes to the dimensions of the new truck.

The wide, muscular look is a low line that extends the length and width of the vehicle and reverberates throughout the horizontal dash, even with a large 14.0-inch touchscreen. A D-shaped vent borders the screen like an ear, and a horizontal climate button and loud knob limit your reliance on touch. The gear shifter occupies a large center console with wireless smartphone charging, padded armrests, and other soft-touch materials available for most trims.

Toyota has retired the V-8 and its outdated 6-speed automatic transmission and adopted two twin-turbo V-6s with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The base 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 outputs 389hp and 479lb-ft. This exceeds the output 5.7 liter V-8 381hp and 401lb-ft.

Similar to the 2021 Ford F-150 hybrid, Toyota will be equipped with the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 hybrid available for the 2022 Tundra, delivering 437hp and 583lb-ft at 2,400rpm. A motor generator sandwiched between the engine and the transmission boosts the engine during operation, while the hybrid system powers engine stop / start, regenerative braking, electric assist, and EV operation at speeds below 18mph. To supply. Sport and Sport + drive modes complement the traction / transport mode of the console drive selector. The 288 volt NiMH battery pack is located under the backseat of the Tundra Hybrid.

An efficiency rating has not yet been announced, but both V-6s should exceed last year’s EPA rating of 15 combined with 13 mpg cities, 18 highways, and rear-wheel drive V-8s. The 2021 F-150 hybrid has a total rating of 24mpg with 4WD.

The hybrid is as remarkable as the new suspension and the change from a ladder frame to a wider full box frame. New, lighter double wishbone suspension and multi-link rear suspension with coil springs instead of old leaf springs promise a softer ride and better handling. The higher trim attaches the cabin to the frame with a hydraulic cab mount, and the larger crossmembers reinforce the chassis for greater rigidity.

Three heights of air suspension available simplifies bed loading and slow offloading in high mode. Adaptive dampers available smooth out road imperfections for a more comfortable street drive. The TRD Pro grade gets a 2.5-inch Fox internal bypass shock with a 1.1-inch front lift, TRD-specific front stabilizer bar, aluminum front skid plate, and all-terrain Falken tires.

The hybrid powertrain is standard on the TRD Pro and is available in Limited, Platinum, and 1794 models.

The redesigned Tundra is offered in two 4-door body styles with three bed lengths. The expansion cab comes with a 6’5 or 8’1 bed, while the crew cab has a 5’5 or 6’5 bed. The maximum load capacity is 1,940 lbs (up from the current model’s 1,730 lbs), but Toyota has not yet categorized features by body style and powertrain.

Safety and infotainment features

Toyota continues to prioritize safety by equipping all Tundra trim levels with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind spot monitors, automatic high beams, and rear seat reminders. That gear makes it the best equipped full-size truck when it comes to safety. When the new Tundra is launched, federal and independent crash tests will be conducted.

Perhaps the biggest news of Toyota’s biggest model is the large 14.5-inch touchscreen and new infotainment system designed and manufactured for the American market. According to Toyota, like the system that debuted in the 2022 Lexus NX, the setup features fresh fonts, crisp visuals, pinch and zoom capabilities, enhanced voice commands, and dual microphones for both passenger seats. The processing speed is 5 times faster. ..

The loud dial and 8.0-inch touch screen come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a power tailgate. Wi-Fi hotspots allow you to connect to up to 10 devices and keep the available navigation up-to-date with wireless updates. Options include a panoramic roof, heated and cooled front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Available 12.3-inch digital instrument clusters are standard on hybrid engines and are found on Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro models. The standard cluster for SR and SR5 models has a 4.1-inch vehicle information display.

Available in SR5, Limited, 1794 TRD off-road packages include 18-inch or 20-inch TRD wheels, monotube Bilstein shocks, special grille, skid plate, mudguard, and electronic rear differential lock on 4WD models. .. The TRD Sport Package available on the SR5 model adds a 20-inch TRD wheel, a special grille, and a lowered sports suspension.

Available surround view camera systems project bird’s-eye views of trucks and trailers, cargo beds, and hitches. The new power side mirrors are larger, heated and come with a camera that can be used to project a blind spot view onto the touch screen. The mirror also houses LED trailer lights to help park the trailer at night.

Toyota will provide the 2022 Tundra with a 36-month / 36,000-mile basic warranty, regular factory maintenance, and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles.
