Athens, Georgia (CBS46)-University of Georgia students are very vigilant while campus police are searching for a man who attacked a woman near the campus parking deck early Saturday morning.
“I found it uncomfortable to walk alone, and now I’m worried about my friends,” said Gabriella Hoechst, a freshman at the University of Georgia.
According to UGA police, police officers found a woman unconscious on the sidewalk next to a multi-storey car park on the North Campus around 2:30 am.
Police said a review of surveillance footage revealed that a man had assaulted a woman, groped, and stole her cell phone.
The students said they had received an email explaining what had happened since Sunday at UGA.
The freshman told CBS46 that the campus was already difficult to navigate and was scared to find that the person in charge was still loose.
UGA freshman Isabell Carvel-Watson said, “I’m nervous. Moving to a new city or school was already a big shock. This dramatic thing made me scared to go out again. I did. “
The search for men continues, but some students said they are currently offering multiple forms of protection.
“Pulling the clip produces a bright light and an audible alarm. Now we also have a pepper spray,” said Hoechst.
UGA police require anyone with information about a man to be contacted at 706-542-2200 as soon as possible.
UGA also encourages students to travel together in bright places and be aware of their surroundings. They also urge the community to immediately report suspicious activity or individuals to law enforcement agencies.
