Sacramento County (CBS13) — Authorities say cyclists happened during a fatal collision from an embankment along Highway 160 over the weekend.
The California Highway Patrol reportedly received a report from a cyclist on Saturday morning when he noticed an SUV leaning against a tree from the south embankment of Scribner Road.
No one else was reporting the crash at that time, CHP says.
Police officers immediately responded to the scene and discovered that a 24-year-old Rancho Cordoba woman was in the car. She was declared dead.
Investigators believe that for unknown reasons, when the driver turned left and hit a guardrail, he was speeding the SR-160 northward. After that, the car fell and collided with the west bank away from the embankment road.
However, the exact time of the crash has not yet been determined. Police officers on the scene said the car was already cool to the touch.
On Tuesday, the Sacramento County Coroner office identified the woman as Adriana Abitia.
