$ 28 Million Space Flight Tickets at Jeff Bezos Auction

Next month, tickets for a short trip to space with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos were sold at auction for $ 28 million.

According to Blue Origin, the bidding process, which began in early May, received offers from more than 7,000 participants from 159 countries. The price was $ 4.8 million prior to Saturday’s live auction, which was streamed online.

The identity of the winning bidder has not yet been announced, but will be revealed within a few weeks, according to Blue Origin.

Whoever it is will travel with Bezos and his younger brother, Mark, and three other passengers. The company said the “fourth and last” passengers will be announced shortly.

It takes about 10 minutes from launch to landing, about three of which are weightless, and the trip costs the winning bidder more than $ 9 million per minute in space.

The winning bid will be donated to Club for the Future, a Blue Origin foundation focused on STEM education programs.

The launch will take place in Texas on July 20, 15 days after Bezos will resign as Amazon’s CEO.

A spokesperson for the company declined to comment on whether Bezos’ transition to executive chairs was related to his desire to take part in a trip involving human passengers for the first time.

“I’ve been dreaming about space travel since I was five,” Bezos said in an Instagram post last week.

“On July 20, I will embark on that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure with my best friend.”

To date, 15 test flights of New Shepard capsules have been made. Despite the successful return of the capsule to Earth, everything was successful except for the first April 2015 when the rocket crash landed.

If successful, a trip on the New Shepard Capsule will be the first commercial spaceflight to take civilians across the Karman Line, the internationally recognized edge of space, more than 60 miles from Earth. ..

However, Blue Origin’s schedule is reportedly rushing to move forward with plans from competing space travel company Virgin Galactic, founded by Sir Richard Branson.

“Please look at this space …” Businessman I wrote in a recent tweet..The company held Successful test last month..

Blue Origin, which has been fully funded by Bezos’ sale of Amazon shares, has not released details on future travel pricing, but has “most competitive” bids. Said that he would be required to be interested in future flights.
