Police said baseball fans and players scrambled during the match after three people were injured in a shooting on Saturday night outside Nationals Park in Washington-Washington, DC.

According to Ashan Benedict, assistant police chief of the DC Metropolitan Police Department, fans outside the stadium were one of three injured.

CNN journalists in the stadium reported hearing multiple big bangs in the bottom of the sixth inning during the match between the Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres.

After hearing the gunshot, the fans ran away from their seats and searched for shelter. Benedict said there was no ultimate threat to the people in the stadium.

“I want to assure the public that no individual in the stadium has participated in the game in spite of any kind of danger during this incident. This is not a lively shooter incident and has not been investigated as such. Everything was done outside the stadium, “he said.

Benedict told reporters that two vehicles were involved in a “shoot” on the street outside the stadium during the match. Police have recovered one vehicle, but the other remains large.

According to Benedict, the other two who were injured in the shooting were associated with the recovered vehicle and are currently in the hospital after being cross-examined by police. It is unknown what their exact involvement in the case was. Benedict also said those individuals were known to law enforcement agencies.

The shot fans and women are expected to recover, Benedict said. Police initially said in a statement posted on Twitter that four people had been shot dead.

According to Scott Fear, vice president of public security and security at Washington Nationals, Washington Nationals had evacuated fans into the stadium shortly after the shooting. Immediately after the shooting, the scoreboard message told the fans to stay in the baseball field, but was later updated to say that it was safe for the fans to leave the stadium.

“We held the shelter-in-place for about 10-15 minutes, when we said fans were allowed, but fans were allowed, but the Centerfield Gate on the other side of the stadium. Was allowed out of the Lightfield Gate, because the MPD informed me that they were safe enough to get out of the gate that way, “Fia said. It was.

The Nationals told Twitter that the rest of the game was suspended until Sunday afternoon.

“The suspended game will resume at 1:05 EST and will be completed as a 9-inning regulation game,” the team said.

According to the team, it was originally scheduled to start at the same time on Sunday, but instead will be played at the end of the suspended game in Game 3 of the Nationals-Padres series.

San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatís Jr. posted a thank-you note on Twitter for those who responded to the shooting.

“I hope everyone is safe! Keep praying. Thank you to everyone who helps at the forefront! God bless you,” he said.
