Denver (AP / KDVR) — Governor Jared Polis states that a private ranch with ponds, springs and rare wetland plants in the western mountains of Colorado will be part of the new state park.
Police has joined state and federal park officials for the announcement on Wednesday, October 20.
Police states that a 488-acre ranch near Sweetwater Lake in Garfield County, northwest of the state bordering Utah, will be part of the White River National Forest.
Ranch land was acquired by the Federal Parks Authority Conservation Fund on August 31st. Police said it was the first partnership to create a state park on US Forest Office land.
Currently, the facility’s infrastructure is poorly equipped, but facility improvements and new boat launches will be open to the public by June 1.
Police states that the area was one of the top priority purchases of a federal program to increase public recreation and protect wildlife and nature.
