The quake struck at 3:49 pm, near Markleeville, California, about 30 miles south of Lake Tahoe, followed by more than 10 aftershocks in California.
According to the USGS, the depth of the first quake was about 6 miles.
According to the California Governor’s Emergency Services Department, there were no preliminary reports of damage or injuries, but officials at the Department called it a “rapidly evolving situation.”
According to reports from social media and the USGS, the quake was felt to the San Francisco Bay Area and east of Carson City, Nevada.
