Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) — A large new e-commerce robotics fulfillment center is planned to be located just south of the Navy Air Base Oceana, with multiple sources saying it will be home to Amazon.

On Wednesday, the Virginia Beach Planning Commission unanimously approved an application for a five-story 650,000-square-foot warehouse to be built on more than 160 acres of land along Dam Neck Road near where Harpers Road meets. Recommended.

According to planning department documents, the building will include 55 loading docks, 420 trailer truck parking spaces, and 1,750 parking spaces to accommodate more than 1,000 employees.

Through a development agreement, the city has built a new road between Dam Neck Road and London Bridge Road on the city’s assets, a planned home on the Southeast Expressway that has never been built.

The planning committee spent two hours reviewing the request that Deputy Mayor Taylor Adams said would be met by one of the “five most desirable clients in the world.”

However, the neighbors who opposed the project gave the name “Amazon” only once.

Emily Hawkins, who works for retail giant Communications, said she’s investigating 10 OnYourSide’s request to confirm that Amazon is heading to Virginia Beach.

Several sources familiar with the project but not allowed to speak publicly confirm that Amazon is an “end user.” In addition, the parties involved in the comments by lawyers representing the applicant, the renderings presented to the city, and the proposal leave little doubt as to who is trying to move in.

Applicants are BT Holdings III, LLC & PDC TN / FL LPIV, LLC. BT Holdings III is registered at the address of Virginia Beach-based Crelor Land & Development Co. According to city records, this land has been owned for over 10 years.

PDC TN / FL LPIV, LLC is registered at the address of the Nashville office of the Panatoni Development Company. Panattoni has built several Amazon warehouse facilities nationwide Includes Western branch ones.

The applicant’s attorney, Eddie Bourdon, told the planning committee that he couldn’t appoint a user, but gave him a hint in addressing concerns about the speed at which development goes through the approval process.

“The secret to their success is how quickly they deliver the product to the person who ordered it,” says Bourdon. “They are very planned.”

Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dier said he couldn’t confirm who the user was, but said he was excited about the potential for development.

“This could be a game changer for our community,” Dier said. “Thousands of jobs that keep our children here.”

The city council will get final approval for a development agreement that says land rezoning and Adams are needed.

“It takes some public investment to get the outlook,” Adams told the Commissioner. He revealed how much it would cost to contribute to the city. All he says is that the developer makes a “nine-digit investment”.

Seven neighbors, primarily from the Prince George Estates district, opposed the new road, fearing how tractor trailer traffic would affect their quality of life.
