69th Miss Navajo Nation pageant to be virtual as COVID cases rise – Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque, New Mexico 2021-09-08 20:53:26 –

The Navajo Ministry of Health recently issued health recommendations to 38 communities, including Shippilock, due to the uncontrolled spread of COVID-19.

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez said:

Mr Nez said the increase in incidents could be related to many travelers. As the Workers’ Day has just passed, national leaders hope that their numbers will not continue to grow.

“This time of Labor Day last year started to rise steadily towards the holiday season, so of course we knew that vaccines were available now,” he said.

But still, the idea of a large gathering is a concern.

The pageant was canceled last year, but this year the Miss Navajo Nation pageant is virtually back. Only 25 people, including contestants, judges and other participants, can attend the actual event.

Pageants usually attract thousands of people to Navajo Nation, but Nation leaders want to slow their spread and keep those numbers down.
