Honolulu (AP) —A large tree branch in the Waikiki district of Honolulu collapsed on Saturday, injuring at least seven people, Hawaii News Now reported.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services told Hawaii News Now that a large branch of the banyan tree had collapsed at around 12:15 pm at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in the heart of a popular tourist district.
The seven people who suffered multiple injuries included those who suffered severe head injuries and multiple cuts. According to the Honolulu EMS, four out of seven patients were treated and taken to a nearby hospital.
The serious injuries were a 50-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman, a 28-year-old woman, and another woman of unknown age, Hawaii News Now reported.
The other three evaluated on-site refused to transport.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village issued the following statement after the incident: “Our idea lies with the affected people and their families. Our hotel team and a few guests responded immediately and contacted the appropriate authorities.”
