The University of Maryland football program has suspended all team-related activities after eight players have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last seven days.
The match against Ohio State University on Saturday will be canceled and the schedule will not change.

“We recognize that the news is disappointing for all Maryland fans who were looking forward to joining Ohio State University’s excellent team, but consider that there are many positive cases. “Our responsibility is to suspend football activities. We are currently participating in our program,” athletic director Damon Evans said in a press release.
Head coach Mike Locksley said the team would return to play when it was safe.
“I’m very disappointed that I can’t host Ohio State University this Saturday,” he said in a release. “It was an opportunity for our team to prepare and be excited.”
The university consulted with the Big Ten Conference in making the decision.
