85-year-old cyclist dies after being struck by garbage truck – Denver, Colorado

Aurora, Colorado — An 85-year-old man on a bicycle was killed in a garbage truck in Aurora on Monday.

It occurred at the intersection of East Exposition Avenue and Havana Street at around 2:54 pm.

Police said a garbage truck was at the exposition waiting for a right turn to Havana to the north. When the traffic light turned green, the truck turned right and stuck a cyclist crossing the pedestrian crossing.

An 85-year-old man was taken to the hospital and later injured.

Police said the driver of a commercial garbage truck remained on the scene and was supportive. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be the cause of the accident.

The identity of the deceased will be announced by the Arapahoe County Coroner Office after a positive identification and notification to his close relatives.
