The state deals with strong winds, single-digit humidity, and above-average temperatures. It is burning in a state. The biggest fire is in northern New Mexico near the city of Las Vegas. Hermit Peak-Calf Canyon Fire burns about 190,000 acres and contains 43%. Over 1,500 firefighters are working to gain control of a fire that has partially begun due to open burning. Some communities have been forced to evacuate. State officials said Taos County was notified as the fire moved north.
