For the first time, scientists have discovered an amber fossilized “immortal” crab.Dating back to Cretaceous, This fully preserved crustacean could be one of the earliest examples of crabs occupying freshwater habitats.

Researchers have named newly discovered species Cretaspara athanata — “Athanata” which means “immortal”. Cretaceous “Cret-“. And “Asparagus” for the legendary Southeast Asian spirit of clouds and water, a tribute to its amphibious lifestyle and place of discovery.
