MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – 2020 was a year that many cannot say “sweet”.
But that was certainly the case for some candy companies.
According to the National Confectioners Association, consumers spent about $ 36.7 on sweets in 2020. We also spent about $ 11 billion on regular candies and about $ 22 billion on chocolate, increasing sales by 4%.
One local chocolate company says people were spending hundreds of dollars at a time looking for something to lift their mood.
“That is, it’s dark chocolate overall,” said Patty and Eileen Torero, co-owners of Moon Township’s Trello Chocolat. “The thicker the chocolate, the more antioxidants it has, the better it is for you. It really lifts your mood, which is one of the main things people have been looking for.
Last year, instead of a direct pandemic visit, about 36% of people in the United States dropped their goods baskets, helping to increase sales.
