What is your title at Cafe Cà Phê?
Where is your family’s country of origin?
My dad is from Malaysia (Kuching to be exact).
What took you and your family to Kansas City?
My husband and I moved to Kansas City for school and work.
When did you start working at Cafe Cà Phê? And how did you connect?
I started in March 2021 at Café Cà Phê. After the shooting in Atlanta, I sat down with Jackie and Madoka and started volunteering.
Cafe Cà Phê is all about culture. How do you think your culture fits in?
Malaysia’s culture is so diverse that it’s amazing to see many of my childhood similarities with Cafe Cà Phê.
How did working at Cafe Cà Phê affect your connection with the AAPI community in Kansas City?
It helped me connect with others in the AAPI community and allowed me to learn more about my culture.
Can you share something about your culture that our readers may not know?
Malaysia is one of the most multicultural countries in Southeast Asia. It is made up of Malays, Chinese and Indians. The three major religions practiced are Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism, to name a few.
What does AAPI Heritage Month mean to you?
Now is a highlighted time to share my cultural traditions with others. And I can share lots of delicious food!
