Aaron Dean sentenced to over 10 years in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter in Atatiana Jefferson’s death in 2019
Former Texas State Police Officer Aaron Dean convicted of manslaughter For the murder of Atatiana Jefferson in 2019, he was sentenced to 11 years, 10 months and 12 days in prison.
The decision was announced on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 20, less than a week after Dean was convicted of manslaughter on December 15.
Dean was initially charged with murder, but before the jury began deliberating, he told them the judge could consider a verdict of manslaughter.

Smith claimed that Dean did not give Jefferson time to obey orders such as raising his hand. Body camera footage released by the Fort Worth Police Department shows that Dean shot Jefferson about a second after he first spoke to him. The prosecutor said that Dean Having never seen a gun, he described him as a “gun-ho, hard-charger” who “had just shot.”
