In this article, Hanif Sfizada, coordinator of the Afghanistan Research Center’s Education and Outreach Program, answers the question, “How is the Taliban funded?”
Before joining UNO, Sufizada was Director of Private Sector Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) in Kabul, Afghanistan. In addition, he was a senior technical advisor on the governance of the Mayor of Kabul. He worked closely with the mayor and his senior staff to develop governance policies, procedures, departmental mandates, and design economic development packages for the various districts of the city. He also worked closely with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in the development of urban infrastructure.
Sufizada has over 7 years of experience working at the United Nations in developing countries such as Liberia, Nepal and Pakistan, with a focus on economic and political stability through the involvement of the private sector.
