According to WHO, Deltacovid variants are now spread to 80 countries and continue to change.

The first Deltacovid variant detected in India, according to World Health Organization officials, is now widespread in more than 80 countries and continues to mutate as it spreads around the world.

This variant has accounted for 10% of all new cases in the United States, up from 6% last week. Studies have shown that this variant is even more contagious than other variants. WHO officials said some reports also found that it caused more serious symptoms, but more research is needed to confirm those conclusions.

WHO is also tracking recent reports of the “Delta Plus” variant. “I think this means that there are additional mutations identified,” said Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO’s Covid-19 technical lead. “Some delta variants showed one less mutation or one deletion rather than an addition, so we’re looking at everything.”

Delta variants have recently become the predominant strain in the UK, surpassing the native alpha variants first detected in the country last fall.Delta variants currently account for over 60% of new cases in the UK

Dr. Anthony Fauci, President’s Chief Medical Advisor, Said “We can’t do that in the United States,” he said last week, as he urged more people, especially young adults, to be vaccinated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designated the Delta mutant as a mutant of concern in the United States on Tuesday. WHO designated the Delta variant as a variant of concern in early May.

WHO on Tuesday also added another Covid mutation, the lambda variant, to the list of variants of interest. The agency monitors more than 50 different Covid variants, but it does not pose a sufficient public health threat to create a formal WHO watchlist. Lambda mutants have multiple mutations in peplomers that can affect their transmissibility, but more research is needed to fully understand the mutations, Vankelhove said. Stated.

Lambda mutants have been detected by South American scientists, including Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina, thanks to enhanced genomic surveillance.
