Austin, Texas (Kanzan) — A jury in Austin found Infowars host Alex Jones to pay more than $4 million to the families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims over the show’s allegations that the shooting was a hoax and that the parents were crisis managers. I discovered that I had to pay

The verdict returned Thursday marks the first of two amounts jurors were asked to calculate after hearing nearly two weeks of testimony in the case.

Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, who lost their six-year-old son Jesse in the 2012 shooting, have sued Jones for defamation and emotional distress. Jones was held accountable in court last year. A jury was tasked with figuring out the actual amount of damages he owed to compensate Heslin and Lewis.

Plaintiffs have asked jurors to consider awarding $150 million. This is because Sandy believed that Hook was, or could be, a fake.

Before the judgment was handed down, plaintiffs’ attorney Mark Bankston said, “I know it’s a big judgment, but I believe it says a lot about the level of damage done in this case. There are,’ he said.

Jones’ team argued that plaintiffs did not provide sufficient evidence to show that Jones’ words caused their distress or to justify the large sum of money.

“A lot of their arguments are about punishment,” Jones’ attorney Andino Raynal said. “We will discuss punishment when the time comes. Now I will talk about the actual damage.”

Jones and his team are gearing up for a second verdict with additional punitive damages, likely to be returned later this week. He said he would bring in a financial expert to testify before filing charges.

This is a developing story.
