In Ahupuaa Honolulu Moku Kona Island on Oahu is a landmark currently registered on the National Register of Historic Places.

Its landmark is the Kaumakapili Church.

The first Christian church founded on Oahu was the Kawaiahao Church in 1820, but mainly served Hawaiian royals and aristocrats. As a result, the common people petitioned for another place of worship.

The church, made of mudbrick and thatched roof, was built in 1839 on a part of the named land. Kaumakapili.. The mudbrick church became the Kaumakapili Church.

It was demolished over 50 years later and replaced with a new brick structure.

The building was accidentally destroyed in 1900 after a wooden spire burned when part of Chinatown was deliberately lit by flames to clear the bubonic plague.

The land was sold and the church moved to another location. The new structure was built in 1910 and has evolved and refurbished ever since.

Kaumakapili was nicknamed “The Queen of Hawaiian Churches” in the 20th century and is still majestic today.
