Amazon has announced that it will invest $ 125 million to build 1,000 affordable homes at subway stations in the DC area over the next five years.
Amazon and Metro said in a joint statement that housing would be available to low- and middle-income families.
In a statement, Amazon’s Head of Community Development, Catherine Bühl said, “Amazon allows middle- and low-income families to thrive and benefit from the benefits our region offers. We are committed to creating and maintaining comprehensive housing development. ”
Amazon’s efforts help “address the challenges of affordability, congestion and sustainability of homes,” said Paul Wiedefeld, Metro General Manager.
The funds will be available to developers who have a collaborative development agreement with Metro. The $ 25 million that is part of the funding will be available to minority-led developers.
