Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) —After a heartfelt break, Casino del Sol is preparing to welcome visitors to this year’s Tamar & Heritage Festival.

It takes place on December 4th, celebrating the tastes, aromas, and tamales of everything from the Southwest and Mexico.

KGUN9 has caught up with a woman who has been in the festival’s Tamale contest for eight years.

Gloria Gastelum has won first, second and third place honors and aims to bring another outcome.

“My sister won three years ago, I have a sister, and she entered three years ago, and she beat me … I won her first I won second. After I won, I stopped and said I was going to come back and win. “

Gloria Gasteram, Tamale Contestants

Gloria says she plans to prepare 200 dozen tamales with her son, using a recipe inherited from her great-grandmother.

You can taste your own taste at the booth named after your mother’s nickname “La Kitazu”.

The festival starts at 10am and is held with music until 5pm.
