Omaha, Nebraska 2022-05-20 08:14:28 –

Omaha, Nebraska (KMTV) — CrossFit Hydro will host the 9th Ronda Burpee Challenge.

The challenge began in 2014 when Rhonda, the mother of CrossFit Hydro owner Justin Van Beek, was fighting stage 4 colon cancer. Ronda has passed away, but her challenge continues.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday, May 22nd, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at CrossFit Hydro.

In the challenge, a team of two will try to complete 224 burpees in 20 minutes to raise awareness and funding for colon cancer prevention.

“My mother, Ronda, was 56 when she died. She fought colon cancer for four years,” Van Beek said.

Rhonda’s Burpee Challenge has raised over $ 62,000 for the Great Plains Colon Cancer Task Force.

“It’s incredible to see the community take action each year to raise awareness of such important causes. Colorectal cancer is in the advanced stages and until it becomes more difficult to overcome. Often not detected. We hope that all the barpies we do will help at least one person avoid experiencing the heartache and pain of a colon cancer diagnosis. “
