Maria Garcia, a journalist and a lifelong fan of tejano music star Serena Quintanilla, explores the cultural influence and sense of belonging that the late star left to her fans.
Maria Garcia has produced an 11-episode podcast series, “Anything for Selena.” She uses her journalism expertise to analyze Serena’s impact on the social and cultural aspects of growing Hispanics in the United States.

This podcast is the culmination of this lifelong obsession and lifelong quest to understand why I came back to this artist. As a fan I grew up reading and seeing. Everything about Serena. I knew there was a lot to do, but nothing unleashed her legacy. “
Garcia flew to Texas, the hometown of her and Tehanostar, to create a podcast and connect to her own roots.

“She (Serena) became a symbol of American and Latino identities, and the podcast became a Latino-American expedition in the United States, so we dig deeper into Latino identities,” he said. .. Garcia. “I didn’t know how many vulnerabilities were there, and her story would bring me to face. Serena helps us understand where we belong, but that’s the number one. A quest for my own possessions in this world as a generation Mexican-American. Through very fragile storytelling, a deep and personal journalist has explored her heritage. “
In the podcast, Garcia explores how Serena paved the way for her cultural identity and body image.
“We see her heritage not only from a musical point of view, but also from what she has become a symbol of society,” Garcia said. “This is for Serena.”
